Cannes crowns Claude and a climate idea
An AI brand wins Film for human writing, and insurance wins Titanium as climate resilience.

Cannes Lions closed on June 26, and two Grand Prix told the story of the year. Mother London won the Film Grand Prix for Anthropic's Claude, with two spots, "Can I Get a Six Pack Quickly" and "How Can I Communicate Better With My Mom," that used humour and sharp human writing to sell an AI assistant. Leo Sydney won the Dan Wieden Titanium Grand Prix for Suncorp "Haven," a campaign that turns home insurance into a long-term climate-resilience program.
The full winners list rewarded substance over spectacle. Kenya took its first Grand Prix in festival history, the Sustainable Development Goals prize, for "Paid Sick Leave for Cows" by The Partnership Agency in Nairobi. Oreo won a Titanium for its Cows work. Across The Ordinary, AB InBev's inaugural Creative Brand Lion and these winners runs one thread: ideas with a real mechanism, not a clever execution on its own.
The festival ran June 22 to 26 at the Palais des Festivals, with Oprah Winfrey receiving the 2026 LionHeart and a new Cannes Lions Deconstructed track for emerging voices. The Film category alone drew 1,469 entries and handed out 45 Lions, so the top prize sat on top of a deep field. Anthropic taking Film, in a year when every holding company pitched AI, says the work that broke through used the tool quietly rather than putting it on stage.
What it signals
The Claude win matters for every marketer watching AI. The most awarded AI campaign of the year did not show off the technology. It wrote funny, human scripts and let the product sit underneath. That is the opposite of the generate-everything pitch the platforms are selling this month. The lesson is not to avoid AI. It is to keep the human craft on top, because that is still what the room rewards. Enter work with a mechanism and a point of view, and treat AI as production help, not as the idea itself.
For regional brands the practical read is to stop entering AI as a category and start entering ideas that happen to use it. A jury rewards the mechanism and the craft, not the toolchain. Brief teams for a clear human insight first, then decide where AI earns its place in production.
The signal: The festival rewarded ideas with a mechanism and human craft. AI can be the subject or the tool. It is not the idea.
