Meta puts an AI agent in every chat
The Business Agent goes global on WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger to sell and serve automatically.

Meta launched its Business Agent worldwide across WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger, putting an AI sales and service assistant in front of every business conversation. It also added Manus AI integrations to Ads Manager, started testing "Post-view ads" on Instagram Reels, and quietly changed its ad label from "Sponsored" to "Ad."
The Business Agent answers customer questions, recommends products and moves a conversation toward a sale, automatically, at the scale of Meta's messaging apps. For a small business that cannot staff a chat team, that is a real gain. For a brand, it is another step where the words a customer reads come from a system, not a person.
The rollout lands alongside other Meta moves this month: location fees tied to digital service taxes in several European markets, and fresh privacy questions about training ads on user data. The Business Agent runs on that same data advantage, which is what makes it powerful and what makes it worth watching. An agent that knows your catalog and your customer can sell well, and can also overstep if no one set its limits.
The decision
The agent is most useful for high-volume, low-stakes questions: hours, availability, order status, simple recommendations. It is riskiest where a wrong or off-brand answer reaches a customer in your name. Before turning it on, write the guardrails: what it can promise, what it must escalate, what it must never say. Treat it like a junior rep who needs a script and a manager, not a finished employee. The label change from "Sponsored" to "Ad" is small but worth noting, since clearer disclosure builds trust, and you will want the same clarity in what your agent tells people.
Start the agent on a narrow, low-risk lane, measure its answers for a week against what a person would have said, and expand only where it matches. Write down what it must escalate, and read the transcripts, because the cost of one confident wrong answer at Meta scale is paid by your brand, not by Meta.
The signal: Meta's agent will speak for you to millions. Write its guardrails first, and keep a human on anything that is not a simple, low-stakes answer.
