Pinterest Performance+ Catalog Sales hits general availability
The pre-built campaign type that lived in test for months opens to all merchants. SMB ad budget is the target.

Pinterest moved its Performance+ Catalog Sales campaign type from limited testing to general availability this week, opening it to all merchants who connect a product feed via the Pinterest Shopify app or upload a catalog directly through Ads Manager. The format pre-builds the campaign structure, the bidding strategy and the audience model, leaving the merchant to upload the catalog and set a budget.
The second leg of an SMB strategy
The product complements the Promote a Pin launch from late March, which targeted creators and one-off SMB advertisers. Performance+ Catalog Sales is the second leg of the same strategy: making Pinterest's ad inventory legible to a category of advertisers who previously bounced because the platform's setup workflow was harder than Meta's.
The Taste Graph bet
For marketers, the practical implication is specific. Pinterest has historically been a discovery and inspiration channel, not a direct-response one. Performance+ Catalog Sales reframes that. The format is built around what Pinterest calls the Taste Graph: a model trained on billions of pins, boards and saves that predicts which products an individual user is likely to buy, often before they have searched explicitly for them. The bet is that the same audience signal that made Pinterest valuable for awareness can be applied to a clean conversion funnel without losing the platform's intent quality.
Whether the bet pays off depends on three things. First, attribution: Pinterest needs to give merchants meaningful conversion data without forcing a heavy MMP integration. Second, inventory ramp: SMB merchants will not run on Pinterest if the auctions are dominated by enterprise advertisers. Third, the Walmart Connect comparison: many of the same merchants now have a credible retail media alternative that runs Meta and TikTok campaigns inside one workflow. Pinterest needs to show measurable lift on the same SKU.
What to do this quarter
For agencies, the procurement-level question is whether to add Pinterest to the standard SMB plan or treat it as discretionary. Performance+ Catalog Sales lowers the cost-to-test enough that the answer is probably yes. The minimum viable test is a $500 budget over two weeks against a focused product set. The format does the rest. If conversion volume materializes, scale up. If not, it is a cheap experiment.
The strategic observation is broader. The platforms that win the next phase of digital advertising are the ones that collapse setup friction without losing audience quality. Pinterest is making the right move at the right time. Whether the audience volume holds up against Meta and TikTok in the SMB segment is the open question.
This week's signal: Pinterest just made it easier for SMBs to spend on the platform. Add it to the test budget.
